Arbitration is a widely recognized and favored alternative dispute resolution method which is generally more efficient and cost effective than traditional litigation. This is a process in which disputes are submitted to a third party who renders a decision after hearing arguments and reviewing evidence. Arbitration provides many significant advantages and is supported by extensive legal precedent.

Michael Pitton is an experienced arbitrator having served in that capacity, privately and on behalf of the American Arbitration Association, for more than 15 years. He is a member of the adjunct faculty of the University of Iowa College of Law where he teaches several arbitration courses to upper level law students. He is on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Alternative Dispute Resolution Attorneys and is a founding member of Iowa Arbitration Association LLC d/b/a Iowa Arbitrators.

Mediation is a method of alternative dispute resolution in which a third-party neutral is engaged to facilitate an agreed settlement between parties to a dispute. The mediator assists in finding common grounds for resolution of the issues and claims.

Mr. Pitton is a trained mediator and is available to serve as a neutral to assist in the settlement of legal disputes. He received Mediation and Arbitration training through the Dispute Resolution Institute at the Hamline University School of Law and the Mediation Center certified by the Minnesota Supreme Court. Through his diverse litigation and arbitration practice he is able to identify significant issues involved and advance creative approaches to assist in achieving a successful resolution.
